White Sands & Carlsbad (Part 1)

Jacob and Shauna at the entrance of White Sands

Our hotel gave us sleds and wax to slide down the dunes!

Sisters! (Check out my rad $1 sunglasses!)

Jacob caught this cool white lizard

What a daredevil!

Shauna ready to slide down the dune!

Oh yeah - even the pregnant lady in on the action!

And Sebby-lou, too!

I'm turning into a sand lady!

Seb looked absolutely cute/ridiculous with his gum on his pants and sand all over his face

Look at the white, white sand!

The only thing missing is the ocean!

Almost buried!

This weekend, Jacob and Shauna joined Sebastian and I for a short tour of southern New Mexico. Seb hadn't been much further south than Albuquerque, so we took advantage of my four-day weekend to visit White Sands and Carlsbad Caverns. We are so happy Jacob and Shauna could come along for the fun, too - it was so wonderful getting to know them better. I can't believe they are approaching their 1-year anniversary in two short weeks!

We left Albuquerque on Friday afternoon and arrived at the dunes around 4:30p. The sun was hot, but the sand was surprisingly cool on our feet! The sand was so bright it burned our eyes - thank goodness for sun glasses! Our hotel gave us sleds and wax to slide down the dunes. It didn't work well (we went reeeeally slow) but it was still fun. I especially enjoyed getting buried in the sand. After playing in the hot sun for awhile, we took a rest in the shade of a dune and played some cards.

That evening, we had dinner at a local restaurant (Si Senor) and then went swimming in the hotel pool. It was hilarious putting my bathing suit on because as soon as I took my clothes off, a bunch of sand fell to the bathroom floor from my bra! Ha ha! After swimming, we watched A Few Good Men on TV and played a round of Canasta (our new favorite, thanks to Noah and Laura!). What a fun day!
